About the Editors

Prof. Ganesh Man Gurung, PhD
Born in Sirubari, Panchmool of Syangja District, Prof.Ganesh Man Gurung earned his PhD Degree in Sociology from Benaras Hindu University, India. He served as the head of the department of sociology/anthropology Tribhuvan University. In 1999, he was a visiting scholar at the Japan Foundation Asia Center, Japan, and in 2000, he was awarded the Fulbright Research Fellowship, allowing him to conduct research at Cornell University in the USA. He has served in pivotal roles at numerous nationally recognized institutions, including the Public Service Commission as a member; steering committee chair at Social Inclusion Research Fund, SNV, Nepal; Chairman of the University Grants Commission. He served the nation as a member of the Constituent Assembly as well as the Chancellor of the Gandaki University. His contribution to literature and research is equally remarkable. Professor Gurung has authored several books and numerous research articles published in national and international journals. His research interests include social inequality, education issues, politics, ethnicity, and social change.

Prof. Kailash Nath Pyakuryal, PhD
Prof. Kailash Nath Pyakuryal holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Michigan State University, U.S.A., and an M.S. in Agriculture Extension from the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon, and a B.Sc. Agriculture from the University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, India. Presently, he is the Chair of the Gandaki University Board of Trustees (BoT) and an Adjunct Professor of Rural Sociology at the Agriculture and Forestry University, Chitwan, Nepal. In the past, Prof. Pyakuryal was the Chair of Sociological and Anthropological Society of Nepal (SASON), served as the Founding Vice-Chancellor of Agriculture and Forestry University (2011-2015), Rampur, Chitwan, Member of National Planning Commission of Nepal (1995) and the Dean of Agriculture at the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (1985-1988). He specializes in natural resource management, comparative research, poverty and farming system research, institution building, and human resource development.

Prof. Biswo Kalyan Parajuli, PhD
Prof. Biswo Kallyan Parajuli is a distinguished sociologist dedicated to advancing Nepal’s higher education system. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Banaras Hindu University in 1998 and has served as Professor of Sociology at Tribhuvan University for the last 30 years and more, playing a crucial role in shaping sociological discourse in Nepal. His research spans social inclusion, Dalit traditional occupations, higher education, and state restructuring.

An accomplished scholar, Prof. Parajuli has mentored numerous MA and Ph.D. students, contributed to curriculum development for Nepalese universities, and published extensively, including books and research papers that have influenced Nepal’s academic landscape. His expertise in data analysis, journal editing, and policy formulation has been instrumental in higher education reforms. Prof. Parajuli is actively engaged in academic governance, having participated in feasibility studies for new universities and technical education programs in Gandaki Province and contributed to the Constituency Delineation Commission of Nepal. He collaborates internationally with institutions in India, Japan, the USA,and the UK, bringing global insights into Nepal’s educational reforms.

Additionally, Prof. Parajuli, a respected scholar, serves as Deputy Chairperson of the Nepal Sociological Association. He was also a member of the Human Resource Management Committee of Gandaki University, holds an MA in Sociology from Tribhuvan University, and is the author of "Sociology and Anthropology in Nepal". His editorial expertise is evident in his role as Editor of the Himalayan Journal of Sociology and Anthropology, contributing significantly to Nepal’s academic discourse.

Prof. Surendra Mishra, PhD
Prof. Surendra Mishra holds a PhD in Sociology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has been involved in various research projects at the Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS), Tribhuvan University. Currently, he teaches sociology at the Central Department of Sociology, Tribhuvan University. In the past, Prof. Mishra served as the General Secretary of the Nepal Sociological Association (NSA), and he is now an active member of the association. His areas of specialization include migration, social research methods, caste and class hierarchy, and social institutions.

Prof. Jai Raj Awasthi, PhD
Born and brought up in a remote village of Darchula district, Prof Awasthi holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Hyderabad. He was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship twice, first, for a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and second, post-doctoral fellow at Michigan State University. Prior to this, he held two Master’s degrees from Tribhuvan University in English Education and English literature.

Prof. Awasthi was the founding member and Past President of the Linguistic Society of Nepal (LSN) and the Nepal English Language Teachers’ Association of Nepal (NELTA). He also worked as the Chief Editor of Nepalese Linguistics and the Journal of NELTA. He has written, co-authored, and co-edited more than 54 books and served as the Consulting Editor for Cambridge University Press. He served Tribhuvan University for forty years and retired as a professor. Since 2015, he has been working as a visiting fellow at Kathmandu University School of Education. Prof. Awasthi was the founding Vice-Chancellor of Far Western University, Nepal.
