About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Nepal Sociological Journal (NSJ) is an annual peer-reviewed, open access publication of the Nepal Sociological Association (NSA). The journal is committed to advancing critical sociological inquiry and fostering intellectual dialogue on the diverse and dynamic social realities of Nepal. It provides a platform for original, evidence-based research and reflective review articles that contribute to the development of sociological theory, method, and practice.
The primary aim of the journal is to promote sociological analyses of contemporary social issues in Nepal, including but not limited to social inequality, identity, social change, environment, migration, development, education, health, gender, caste, class, ethnicity, indigeneity, urbanization, globalization, Indigenous knowledge systems, climate change, disaster and resilience, livelihoods, federalism and governance, social movements, the remittance economy and family dynamics, youth, digital media and social transformation, public policy and welfare studies, and the decolonization of sociology in the South Asian context.
The journal also encourages comparative and transnational studies that engage with Nepali society in regional and global contexts. We welcome contributions in both Nepali and English from scholars, researchers, practitioners, and policy thinkers based in Nepal and abroad. Manuscripts that reflect interdisciplinary perspectives, critical theoretical engagements, and methodological innovation are particularly encouraged. The Nepal Sociological Journal aims to serve as a vibrant space for emerging and established voices in the sociological community, facilitating knowledge exchange and academic collaboration within and beyond Nepal. Submissions are subject to a rigorous peer-review process to maintain the quality and integrity of published research.
