About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Sciences (JMCJMS), ISSN 2091-2242 (Print) and ISSN 2091-2358 (Online), established in 2013 AD, is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by Janaki Medical College, affiliated with the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Tribhuvan University, Nepal which is accredited by Nepal Medical Council (NMC), Nepal Nursing Council (NNC), and the Ministry of Education, Nepal.

JMCJMS was initially published as a biannual journal and has been published triannually since 2022 AD to enhance the timely dissemination of scientific knowledge and scholarly communication. The journal currently publishes three issues annually:

  • Jan–April Issue (No. 1) – published by March/April
  • May–August Issue (No. 2) – published by July/August
  • September–December Issue (No. 3) – published by December each year

Scope and Coverage:

The journal aims to provide a platform for researchers, clinicians, academicians, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to disseminate high-quality scientific research and evidence-based practices that contribute to the improvement of healthcare systems and medical education at national and international levels. JMCJMS particularly encourages manuscripts that address regional and global health priorities, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to strengthening healthcare research and academic excellence in Nepal and beyond.

JMCJMS welcomes submissions from a broad range of disciplines including basic medical sciences, clinical medical sciences, dental sciences, nursing, public health, pharmacy, allied health sciences, and interdisciplinary health research. The journal encourages innovative, ethical, and scientifically rigorous research that addresses contemporary healthcare challenges, emerging diseases, medical technologies, healthcare delivery systems, and community health concerns.

The journal publishes Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Systematic Reviews, Meta-analyses, Short Communications, Case Reports, Case Series, Editorials, Letters to the Editor, Perspectives, Commentaries, Clinical Images, Innovations, Medical Education articles, Medical Humanities, Ethical Discussions, and Obituaries related to the field of medicine and health sciences.

Readership 

The journal is designed for a diverse, multidisciplinary readership engaged in the field of health and medical sciences. This includes faculty members of medical and paramedical disciplines, academicians, clinicians, consultants, researchers, and allied healthcare professionals. It also caters to government officials, health policy makers, students, and other stakeholders with a scholarly interest in medical and health sciences research.

Editorial independence

The JMCJMS editorial board is devoted to maintaining editorial independence and works hard to prevent this principle due to conflicting interests, fear, or any other corporate, business, financial, or political influence.  JMCJMS believes editorial decisions on individual manuscripts should to be founded on both academic excellence and the potential significance of the work to the medical and health sciences communities that the journal serves.

Academic freedom

The Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Sciences (JMCJMS) is committed to fostering academic freedom and advancing scholarly discourse through the publication of high-quality, diverse, and impactful research. The journal upholds the principles of open intellectual exchange and encourages constructive, respectful, and evidence-based scientific debate across all areas of health and medical sciences.

The Editorial Board of JMCJMS is dedicated to safeguarding academic integrity while ensuring that published content adheres to ethical standards of scientific communication. The journal welcomes rigorous scholarly analysis and critical discussion; however, it does not endorse or publish content that promotes, incites, or perpetuates violence, racism, discrimination, or any form of hate speech.

All submissions undergo a stringent peer-review process, with additional oversight provided by the Academic Publishing Committee, ensuring that published work meets the highest standards of scientific quality, ethical conduct, and academic rigor.

Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is a serious form of ethical misconduct that compromises the integrity, quality, readability, and credibility of scholarly publications. Enhancing awareness among researchers regarding plagiarism of words, ideas, data, and graphical content is essential to promote responsible academic writing and to prevent unacceptable publication practices.

The Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Sciences (JMCJMS) strictly adheres to the definitions and standards of piracy and plagiarism as outlined by the Council of Science Editors (CSE) in relation to violations of publication ethics. This includes the unauthorized use, reproduction, or appropriation of ideas, data, methodologies, and graphical materials, as well as self-plagiarism and redundant or duplicate publication.

Forms of plagiarism, including but not limited to verbatim (direct) copying, paraphrasing without proper attribution (paraphragiarism), text recycling, translational plagiarism, graphical plagiarism, citation manipulation, and compound plagiarism, are strictly prohibited.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions are free from any form of plagiarism. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarized content at any stage of the review or publication process may be rejected outright.

Publication Frequency

JMCJMS was previously published as a biannual journal. Since 2022, the journal has adopted a triannual publication schedule, with three issues published annually. The editorial team is continuously working toward further strengthening the journal and aims to transition to a quarterly publication model with four issues per year in the near future.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Publication Ethics

Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Sciences follows the guidelines and policies established by the Council of Science Editors, the Committee on Publication Ethics, and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors regarding research and publication ethics in addressing the concerns raised by the readers.

The editorial board, reviewers, and authors put in an incredible effort to ensure that medications, dosage instructions, and therapies are accurate in the published materials which meet the standards of academic publishing at the time of publication. However, readers must use their own discretion when making clinical decisions and, if needed, consult and compare information from other sources due to the constantly changing nature of the field, reasonable differences in opinion among authorities, the particulars of each clinical situation, and the possibility of human error in preparing such an extensive text.

Journal Disclaimer

Manuscripts submitted to JMCJMS must be original, unpublished works and must not be under consideration, in whole or in part, by any other journal or publication at the time of submission. Any form of duplicate submission, plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or unethical publication practice will result in immediate rejection or retraction of the manuscript and may lead to further editorial action.

The opinions, findings, and conclusions expressed in published articles are solely those of the authors. The editors, editorial board, reviewers, and publisher accept no legal responsibility or liability for the accuracy, authenticity, completeness, or reliability of the published content, nor for any claims arising from the use of such materials.
