Abstract

The amounts of migrant remittance in Nepal have been mostly used in real estates by their families and dependents at home. In recent years, their investments in real estates have substantially gone up. But the recent global recession has adversely affected the flow of migrant remittance in the country. The Nepalese economy has, therefore, felt the pinch of the recession and the impact is evident from the slowdown of the economy to the reduction of overall spending by them. This article attempts to delve into various facets of remittances, its benefit, potential cost, trends, contribution to the Nepalese economy, policy implications, and so on
