Abstract

Mountain tourism has a prominent place in the overall development of tourism in Nepal. This is because tourism in Nepal had started with mountain tourism. At present, mountain tourism occupies the second highest rank among the tourists coming to Nepal. The concept of mountain tourism is wide-ranging. Mountain tourism is a part of adventure tourism based on mountain that includes mountaineering, trekking, hiking, rafting, skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, horse back riding, study of the culture, social and economic reflection of the mountain people/ community and so on. In the context of Nepal, mountaineering expeditions and trekking are the main activities covered by mountain tourism. This article focuses particularly on these aspects of mountain tourism of Nepal.
