Factors Influencing Students Moving Abroad for Higher Studies: A Case of Nepal

Abstract

This study examines the factors influencing students moving abroad for higher studies: A case of Nepal. Decision to study abroad is the dependable variable. The independent variables are quality of education, societal pressure, quality of life, financial security and peer group. The primary source of data is used to assess the opinions of the respondents regarding the factors influencing students moving abroad for higher studies: A case of Nepal. The study is based on primary data of 141 respondents. To achieve the purpose of the study, structured questionnaire is prepared. The correlation coefficients and regression models are estimated to test the different factors influencing students moving abroad for higher studies in case of Nepal. The result shows that quality of education is positively correlated to decision to study abroad. It means that increase in quality of education leads to increase in decision to study abroad. Similarly, there is a positive relationship between societal pressure and decision to study abroad. It means that increase in societal pressure leads to increase in decision to study abroad. Likewise, quality of life has a positive relationship with decision to study abroad. It shows that increase in quality of life leads to increase in decision to study abroad. Furthermore, there is a positive relationship between financial security and decision to study abroad. It indicates that increase in financial security leads to increase in decision to study abroad. Moreover, peer group has a positive relationship with decision to study abroad. It indicates that increase in positive peer group influence leads to increase in decision to study abroad.
