Abstract

Most polymer products are designed to bear mechanical loads. These affect the conformation and mobility of their constituent macromolecules. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is sensitive to molecular conformation and mobility and has been employed to study the signature of macroscopic deformation of polymer materials on a scale ranging from molecular to macroscopic dimensions. This report reviews key studies of polymer deformations by NMR spectroscopy, relaxometry, and imaging.
