Journal of Nepalgunj Medical College (JNGMC) is the official journal of Nepalgunj Medical College and Teaching Hospital, Kohalpur, Nepal. It is a peer reviewed, open access biomedical journal (ISSN 2362-1192, print and 2362-1206 online at www.ngmc.edu.np. The journal publishes research based articles from the field of biomedical sciences which include Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Anaesthesiology, Dermatology, Radio diagnosis and Radiotherapy, Dental, Forensic Medicine, Pathology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology and other allied biomedical disciplines. Each issue of JNGMC publishes Original articles, review articles, case reports, editorials and letter to the editor. The journal is published twice a year. The primary aim of the journal is to increase research related activity in Mid West and Far West Nepal as well as to give out a clear message to the biomedical field and to the society in the benefit of both.
Two independent reviewers are sent the submitted article of any format after initial editing and reediting by the editor in chief and editorial board. Before sending the article for peer review the article goes through a plagiarism test and statistical tests are seen by a statistician. The authors are instructed to evaluate their articles by considering the WAME resource http://www.wame.org/about/resource-for-evaluation-of-research-articles.
The journal strictly follows the guidelines set by Kathmandu University and thus the guidelines for the reviewers and authors are exactly the same as those for the Kathmandu University Medical Journal (KUMJ). All the reviewers are advised to go to the home page of Kathmandu University Medical Journal and follow the guidelines. Similarly the authors are also advised to do the same. In the near future, the Journal will have its separate web page hence all the files will be available for downloads.
Upon receiving the reviewers’ comments the articles, if needed, are sent to the authors for corrections, clarifications and other needed supplementation etc. The author again has to resubmit the article and again the editorial board edits the article. Upon agreement of the board members and editor chief, if the article fits the Journal guidelines and reviewers’ comments are satisfied, a proof of the article is sent to the authors. At the same time consent is requested from the author in email only for the copyright of the article. The article then gets accepted and subsequently published. It takes minimum of 8-12 weeks for an article to be published, which involves editing, re editing, peer review, consent etc.
None of the authors are charged any publication fee, articles. Where human subjects are touched or there is funding, an institutional ethical consent is asked for. Articles published from the authors of NGMC, are given ethical consent by the institution only. However; all the authors are made aware to follow the declaration of tenets of Helsinki.
Final decision for publishing an article is made by the editor in chief after discussion with the editorial board members.
The journal publishes two issues per year.
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
