Abstract

Vase life assessment is an important subjective assessment technique used during postharvest studies of cut flowers. However, there are variation in the consideration of factors used during vase life evaluation among researchers thereby making comparison of results often difficult. This review highlights important factors that need to be considered or monitored during vase life evaluation of cut flowers. From this review, it is evident that there are variation with regards to environmental factors in the evaluation room, type of water used as control, or for preparing test solution and termination of the vase life among the researchers. Thus, it is suggested that recommended factors be followed wherever possible and document them if those factors cannot be followed.
