Focus and Scope

The journal covers various aspects of agronomy, including crop modelling,  organic and regenerative farming, farming and cropping systems, weed science and weed management system, water management in crops, production and adoption of agronomic practices in field crops and horticultural crops,  crop production economics, extension research aligned with agronomic practices and crop production, crop breeding and crop performance, utilization and field evaluation of genetic resources, crop quality, crop-livestock interaction, conservation agriculture, agroclimatology and climate change in crops, grassland and pasture improvement, crop protection, precision farming, soil health and plant nutrition, seed production and distribution systems, crop physiology and crop ecology.

 Agronomy Society of Nepal (ASoN) was established in 2050 BS (1994 AD) by a group of eminent agronomists of Nepal. The ASoN is a forum of academicians, researchers, and professionals for sharing research and development works carried out in the field of agronomy and crop science. The ASoN publishes professional journal, the Agronomy Journal of Nepal (Agron JN), a peer-reviewed, ISSN journal, that publishes relevant works in the field of agronomy and crop science aiming at establishing relationship among professionals working in associated disciplines of agricultural sciences. The journal seeks articles from the fields of agronomy, crop science, and allied fields that help boost agriculture production and productivity, address issue of climate change, and conserve environment  in general and Nepal in particular. The 4th volume of the Agron JN has been published in 2016 in a joint effort of the Agronomy Society of Nepal (ASoN) and the Crop Development Directorate (CDD), Department of Agriculture, Nepal. 

Peer review process

Normally review process takes more than one month. For peer review process usually two or more, independent reviewers, were selected by the editors. The Reviewers treat the review process as being strictly confidential. Immediately after getting reviewer comments/suggestions manuscripts are sent to authors for improvement of their article. Reviewer are invited by editor-in-chief or editors through request made via email. Reviewers come from national or international territory. Reviewers are assigned to review articles in their own particular field of expertise. The editors make a decision based on the reviewers’ advice.

Authors are welcome to suggest potential reviewers; however, it is the editor’s decision whether or not to honor such requests. All submitted manuscripts are read by the editorial staffs, only those papers that seem most likely to meet editorial criteria are sent for formal review. This journal reserves the right to contact funders, regulatory bodies and the authors’ institutions in cases of suspected research or publishing misconduct.

The Agronomy Journal of Nepal is published annually.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Plagiarism Policy

This Journal is dedicated to publish only original materials. The submitted manuscripts should be original works and that has neither been published elsewhere, nor is under review elsewhere in any other Journal/Conference Proceedings or Books. The article will be crosschecked with CrossCheck - iThenticate plagiarism screening software before final publication.

Digital Preservation Policy

Website Archiving: All published contents are available on the publisher’s website

Abstracting/Indexing Services: The journal has been indexed in many Abstracting/Indexing services that store much essential information about the articles. These services archive not only the metadata about the article, but the electronic versions of the articles, as well. Therefore, copies of the articles are available to the scientific community through their systems.

Self-archiving: Authors may archive the final published version of their articles in personal or institutional repositories immediately after publication.

If the journal stops publishing: The publisher intends and expects to continue to publish the journal for a very long time. If due to some rare, unfortunate circumstances, the publisher is forced to stop publishing the journal, the manuscripts published in the journal will be kept online and accessible to the readers for at least 10 more years. This journal has been indexed in Tribhuvan University Central Library.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement: All individuals involved in the publication process—authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher-are expected to adhere to the highest principles of publication ethics. The journal emphasizes professionalism, fairness, and mutual respect while strictly forbidding discrimination, harassment, bullying, or retaliation. The Agronomy Journal of Nepal (Aron JN) is dedicated to preserving the integrity, transparency, and trustworthiness of the scholarly record and provides clear policies and procedures to help all stakeholders comply with these ethical standards.

Editor Responsibilities: Editors are responsible for: Making decisions based solely on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance; Ensuring a fair, transparent, and timely peer review process; Selecting reviewers based on expertise, diversity, and independence; Managing potential conflicts of interest and avoiding bias in reviewer suggestions; Maintaining strict confidentiality of manuscripts and reviewer communications; Investigating allegations of ethical misconduct.

Reviewer Responsibilities: Reviewers assist the Editor by providing objective, constructive, and evidence-based assessments. They must: Treat all manuscripts as confidential; Avoid personal criticism of authors; Declare any conflicts of interest and decline review if conflicts exist; Not use unpublished material for personal research; Alert Editors to suspected ethical issues such as plagiarism or duplicate submission.

Author Responsibilities: Authors are expected to submit original, accurate, and significant research. Responsibilities include: Ensuring authenticity and integrity of data; Properly citing all sources and avoiding plagiarism or redundant publication; Avoiding excessive self-citation or manipulation of citation practices; Disclosing any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest; Confirming that all listed authors meet authorship criteria and approve the final manuscript; Providing sufficient methodological detail for reproducibility.

Authorship and Contribution: Authorship is limited to those who made substantial intellectual contributions. Authors must describe contributions using CRediT taxonomy (e.g., Conceptualization, Methodology, Writing). The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and for ensuring accuracy. Changes in authorship after submission require editorial approval and consent of all authors.

Conflicts of Interest: All participants must disclose financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that may influence the work. Undisclosed conflicts may lead to manuscript rejection or retraction.

Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern: Agron JN follows COPE guidelines for handling post-publication issues: Minor errors: Erratum or Corrigendum; Serious ethical or integrity issues: Expression of Concern or Retraction; All corrections are linked to the original article and are publicly accessible.

Preprint Policy: Posting on a recognized preprint server is allowed but must be disclosed at submission. Preprints should be updated to link to the final published article once accepted in Agron JN.

Handling of Misconduct: Allegations of misconduct—such as plagiarism, data falsification, duplicate submission, unethical authorship, or peer review manipulation—will be investigated fairly and confidentially. The journal may contact the authors’ institutions and take corrective action as needed.

Complaints and Appeals: Authors may appeal editorial decisions with written justification. Complaints regarding editorial or reviewer conduct will be investigated impartially. Final decisions rest with the Editor-in-Chief.

Data Integrity and Availability: Authors are expected to retain and provide access to primary data upon request. Where applicable, a Data Availability Statement should be included in the manuscript to promote transparency and reproducibility.

Ethical Oversight: Agron JN maintains editorial independence and regularly updates its ethical policies to remain aligned with international best practices. All stakeholders are expected to cooperate fully with investigations to ensure the integrity of the scholarly record.
