Verb Agreement in Purbiya Raji

Abstract

The agreement in the Purbiya Raji verbs reveal a number of features common across Tibeto-Burman languages in general and among Raji varieties and Raute. There are TB features in the pronoun forms. The verbs in intransitive verbs agree with the subject. Additionally, a number of features in verb agreement show that Raji is a truly a Tibeto-Burman (TB) language as it has a number of agreement suffixes that can be reconstructed to TB roots. Purbiya Raji has a simplified verb morphology compared to Naukule and Barabandale varieties. Purbiya Raji verbal affixes are largely similar to other Raji varieties, and Raute spoken in Nepal but differs greatly from the variety of Raji spoken in India.
