Empowering our students in mathematics classroom is a psychological, strategic and contingent to both mathematics’ teachers and students. This article argues that exploration of understanding of students’ empowerment, empowering strategies, and state of empowered mind are not fully studied yet. To capture the belief, understanding, perception, and practices of students’ empowerment in mathematics teaching and learning is the core concern of this paper. The secondary level mathematics teachers from the community schools of Kathmandu valley and mathematics educators were purposively selected. Descriptive exploration was made to discuss the information on three key focuses; perception of students’ empowerment, strategies for empowerment, and states of empowered students within the classroom premises. Opportunity of collaborative and cooperative engagement which accept the individual voice of students in the mathematics classroom is perceived as the strategies of students’ empowerment. Sufficient cognitive as well as affective actions that help to build the students’ strength in learning mathematics are the fundamental empowering strategies and the condition of happiness, satisfaction, and on task behaviour are the states of empowered students. Policy maker, academicians, and even the managers would take benefit from finding of this article. There are still many spaces to reduce the gap of existing and expecting strategies for students’ empowerment in the mathematics classroom.
Bed Prasad Dhakal Copyright (c) 2022 Curriculum Development Centre, Tribhuvan University https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54970 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Evaluating Refresher Training on Masters’ Course of Rural Development Subject https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54971
The refresher course training is pivotal for strengthening teachers’ commitment, sharing knowledge, increasing self-confidence, and keeping them up to date on current teaching learning activities. With this consideration, the aim of this paper is to assess the present syllabus of MA in Rural Development and evaluate the refresher course training program based on four levels of evaluation such as reaction, learning, behavior and result of the program. For that purpose, we purposively selected 25 participants who were associated in 21 campuses including Central Department. We applied survey based evaluation research method and Kirkpatrick four levels (reaction, learning, behavior and result) training evaluation model for assessing and examining outcomes of trainings. It reveals that the training program has evolved into an academic platform for students to share their personal experiences with course structure, teaching learning practices, and student performance. It has increased the capacity of the subject coordinators/teacher in terms of networking, course structure/function, performance assessment and constructivist pedagogy. Besides, they have developed a good network amongst the participants and resource persons. The major outputs of the program are SWOC analysis of course structure, 3Rs (Revisit, Revision and Restructure) course concept as well as list of lesson learn and new possible papers (course of study). Therefore, this short term training might brought long term impact improving course structure/function including pedagogical practices. Finally, course function scale, conceptual learning scale, Constructivist Pedagogy/learning theory scale, level four result/outcomes scale and characteristics of the participants are interlinked and associated significantly.
Bishnu Bahadur Khatri, Rajan Binayak Pasa Copyright (c) 2022 Curriculum Development Centre, Tribhuvan University https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54971 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Students' and Teachers' Perceptions on Effective Physics Teaching and Learning https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54972
This research investigates how secondary school learners as well as teachers perceived effective physics learning and instruction. Consequently, a quantitative survey methodology was adopted for the investigation. Fifty-five students enrolled in grade twelve of two institutional secondary schools in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts formed the sample size of the study. Seven teachers were enrolled in the study to collect data from two schools. The study was directed by two research questions. Researchers created a questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale as a tool for data collection. Cronbach’s alpha was used to determine the reliability coefficient, which was found to be 0.84 after the instrument had undergone validation. In order to guarantee a 100 percent return, the researcher circulated the surveys via a Google Form and collected them. After the data were analyzed using mean and frequency distribution analysis to answer the research questions, the percentage of students’ and teachers’ responses to each item was calculated and tabulated. Some of the conclusions that were reached include the fact that most students’ comprehension of physics has a weak foundation.
Bishnu Kumar Dahal Copyright (c) 2022 https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54972 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Use of English Teachers' Pedagogical Capital in the Classroom https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54974
This paper aims at exploring the uses and practices of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teachers pedagogical capital in the classroom. It examines how the use and usages of EFL teachers’ pedagogical capital affects the way they deal with their students in the language classroom. The research was grounded within the interpretive research paradigm. The in-depth unstructured interview and observation were the research tools under narrative inquiry design. The data were collected from three different participants and themes were substantiated by Clandinin and Connelly to replicate their voices and experiences. The research finding reveals that teachers’ profound knowledge and skills about their capital are useful to integrate various cultures and content in the classrooms. Pedagogically inbuilt potentials of teachers and their pedagogical capital maximally enhance learners’ learning opportunities and foster students’ potential. However, it contributes to teachers’ education by rationalizing the essence of teachers’ pedagogical knowledge to transform our ELT practice in Nepal.
Ganesh Kumar Bastola Copyright (c) 2022 Curriculum Development Centre, Tribhuvan University https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54974 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Critical Evaluation of the Psychology Curricula of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54981
Curricula are the guiding frameworks for the teaching-learning experience in the university. This auto-ethnographic account presents my critical evaluation of the curricula of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees of psychology being used at Tribhuvan University, after 5.5 years of teaching as a permanent faculty. There are some strengths in curricula like a strong theoretical foundation, and significant weightage for practical works, and some weaknesses like lack of integrated approach, ignorance of context, and aimlessness. The strengths can be retained and weaknesses can be corrected to provide psychology education that can meet changing societal or market demands.
Pralhad Adhikari Copyright (c) 2022 https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54981 Mon, 03 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Effectiveness of RemoteXs System in Teaching and Research Practices https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54982
Tribhuvan University Central Library (TUCL) has implemented Remote Access Services through the RemoteXs system to impart efficient e-resources services for its users mainly after the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims at investigating the effectiveness of that system in teaching and research practices at Tribhuvan University. This study is based on a quantitative approach. Post positivist ontology has been adopted as a research paradigm that identifies that all observations are imperfect and have errors and all theory is revisable. The survey questionnaire was used to collect data. The population comprised faculty, Ph.D. scholars, and M. Phil. students among which 105 users were taken as a sample size. The demographic data and statistical data were analyzed using Excel, 2007. Hypotheses were tested to find out their effectiveness on teaching and research practices. This study proved that the p-value (p = 1.96) suggested a significant contribution to the effectiveness of the RemoteXS system in teaching and research practices. It is observed that the
system provided current academic and research products in an easy and accessible way to faculties and M.Phil as well as Ph.D. students. High Likert scores on variables; increased productivity after use, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, relevancy of content, advanced search system, saving the time of users, and document downloading facilities also indicated the effective use of it by faculties and research students. At last, the issue of the unavailability of Nepal digital resources has been emphasized which would have been used rigorously for the conduction of research in the context of Nepal.
Pratichya Shakya, Lila Nyaichyai Copyright (c) 2022 https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54982 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000 Wetland-based Tourism and Livelihoods Strategies in the Pokhara Valley, Nepal https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54983
The aim of this study is to assess the current status of tourism and associated livelihood strategies around the Ramsar-listed Lake Cluster of Pokhara Valley in Gandaki Province, Nepal. The study utilizes a mixed research approach, including field observation, semi-structured questionnaires, Key Informants Interview (KII), and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). In addition, published scientific papers and relevant reports were reviewed to assess tourism and livelihood strategies in the area. The findings of the study revealed that locals engage in various livelihood activities, including tourism, business, agriculture, government and non-government jobs, among others. However, while wetlands-based tourism is a significant livelihood option in the study area, there is a need to identify more income- generating opportunities related to wetlands, as highlighted by the FGD. The study also found a positive and significant relationship between livelihood capitals arising from the wetlands and household livelihood level. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the livelihoods of the tourism-dependent community, particularly those in poor and disadvantaged groups. The study noted that the extent of the pandemic’s impact differs in core urban areas and neighboring settlements around the study area. Therefore, the study suggests that policymakers and planners must develop plans, policies, and strategies that promote the tourism sector and involve local communities in decision-making processes and tourism implementation, taking into consideration the global pandemic situation. Agriculture is the primary livelihood strategy for people living near the Lake Cluster of Pokhara Valley, but it can lead to natural resource stress if not managed properly. The study suggests that tourism, particularly eco-tourism-based activities, could be the backbone for the livelihood services of the local population in the Pokhara Metropolitan City. However, to ensure the sustainability of ecotourism, there must be an integrated development and conservation strategy based on a strong public-private partnership.
Shreekant Sharma Khatiwada, Rojesh Timilsina, Ramesh Raj Pant, Kiran Bishwakarma, Krishna Bhatta Copyright (c) 2022 https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54983 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000 A Theoretical Discourse on Quality Education https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54984
The theoretical and empirical dimensions and understandings of quality in education are explored in this study using secondary research techniques based on a literature review and content analysis. It reviews several studies and includes recommendations for top-notch instruction. While the quality of education is a current global problem, Nepal’s education is seen as being of poor quality. In order to guarantee quality education, numerous international conferences have been held. In Nepal, getting a good education is difficult and seen as a piecemeal process. Review shows that there are number of ways to ensure quality education. However, efficiency, effectiveness, equity, relevancy and sustainability are considered the basic measures for a quality education. Similarly, quality environment, quality inputs, quality contents, quality process, quality outputs, quality outcomes, and quality impacts are considered the basic imperatives of quality education. The main methods for achieving quality in diverse sectors include quality assurance, contract compliance, customer-driven, ISO 9000:2000, and self-assessment though the education experts and practitioners perceive quality education as an intangible and elusive notion.
Shree Krishna Panthee Copyright (c) 2022 https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54984 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000 ‘हिटलर र यहुदी’ उपन्यासमा परिवेश https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/54985
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Biheko Baja Kathama Kathaniyata https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/55011
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
Available with fulltext.
साधना Sadhana पन्त Pant Copyright (c) 2022 https://nepjol.info/index.php/cdj/article/view/55014 Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0000
